2007 Plan Revision Public Meetings
In 2007, the Tonto National Forest hosted two rounds of public meetings in towns near each of the Forest’s six districts to collaboratively begin its plan revision effort. The first round of meetings was held in late February and early March of 2007. Then in April, the Forest Service was enjoined from using the 2005 Planning Rule, and so planners on the Tonto National Forest had to revise the planning effort and their public involvement. After some deliberation, the Forest decided to proceed with the second round of meetings, held in late May of 2007.
Summary from the first round of public meetings
At the first round of meetings attendees were asked two questions: “What do you value about the Tonto National Forest?” and “What needs to change about the management of the Tonto National Forest?” Although the answers to these questions were varied, four main topics of concern surfaced. These four topics were Forest Service processes and decision making, law enforcement, travel management, and ecosystem health and function.

Summary from the second round of public meetings
At the second round of meetings, these four main topics were discussed in more detail. Attendees were also asked how they would determine the priorities for tackling all the different problems identified. The responses were again varied, but certain similar ideas were suggested.
