Trail 275 East Pecos Baldy Trail

HikingPecos Baldy Lake, photo

Length: 1/2 mile
Difficulty: Difficult
Use: Moderate
Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
Highest and Lowest Points: 12,530 and 11,975 feet
Trail Access: Skyline Trail 251
USGS Maps: Truchas Peak
Description:

From Pecos Baldy Lake, look for the Skyline 251 angling up the hillside strating at the far southeast corner of the lake basin. This trail switchbacks up the north facing slope to the south of Pecos Baldy Lake and continues to the top of the ridge. From this saddle, the Skyline Trail drops down the other side of the ridge to the south, while the East Pecos Baldy Trail begins to switchback up the southeast face of East Pecos Baldy. The climb is steep and the trail is rocky. The high elevation may also add to the difficulty of the trail.

Notes:

This trail is in the Pecos Wilderness. Motorized equipment and mechanized transportation, including mountain bikes, hunter carts, and chainsaws are prohibited.

Do not attempt to climb Pecos Baldy when there is chance for lightning. Start as early in the morning as possible.

Do not feed or disturb the bighorn sheep.
