Description:

The Lake Johnson Trail starts at an intersection with the Skyline Trail 251 about 150 yards north of the stream crossing. This perennial stream is not shown on some maps but is obvious on the ground. Initially the trail skirts the north boundary of a boggy meadow just north of the stream. From here the trail travels up the hillside, remaining considerably north of the stream. The incline is steady as the trail climbs almost 700 feet to the lake basin just below Redondo Peak.

Notes:

This trail is in the Pecos Wilderness. Motorized equipment and mechanized transportation, including mountain bikes, hunter carts, and chainsaws are prohibited.

Camping is prohibited within 200 feet of the lake. Use existing campsites, preferably as far from the lake as possible. Pack out all your trash.
