Description:
Starts from the parking lot by El Porvenir Campground. After
crossing a bridge over the creek the trail crosses the road
the the campground. From there, the trail travels the base
of Hermit's Peak and begins a long series of switchbacks up
the face of the peak. Several good viewing points can be found
at intervals up the trail. At the top of the peak, Hermit's
Spring is located in a raised rock structure with a metal
lid. Please purify water. A spur trail leads out to Hermit's
Peak. The main trail continues to the north and then northwest
out Lone Pine Mesa. After a steep descent the trail levels
off travelling through a series of forested area and grassy
meadows for about six miles to the junction with Lone
Pine Mesa Trail 214.

Notes:
This
trail is in the Pecos Wilderness. Motorized equipment and
mechanized transportation, including mountain bikes, hunter
carts, and chainsaws are prohibited.
Always
carry extra clothing and weather gear. Hermit's Peak is subject
to frequent severe lightning storms as well as heavy rain
and snow even when the weather is good elsewhere.
