Trail 50 Palomas Trail

Elevation: 9,150 feet+
Trail Access: Travel north from the Cuba Ranger Station on State Highway 550 for one mile to the junction of State Highways 55 and 44 and 126. Turn right at the junction and continue on State Highway 126 eastward for a distance of 10.8 miles to a sign indicating the direction to the San Pedro Parks Wilderness. Turn left at the sign and travel north from the turnoff for a distance of 2.7 miles to the Vacas Trailhead 51 and parking lot. Drive past the parking lot and continue approximately seven miles to the Palomas Trailhead which is signed.
Description:

The trail is steep for a short distance, and then levels off. Trail destination is the San Pedro Parks via the Vacas Trail, about seven miles from the trailhead. Vegetation is mixed conifer, aspen, shrubs and grasses. Trail is mostly through spruce type with occasional openings. Water is abundant throughout the trail. The San Pedro Parks is a large meadow surrounded by dense stands of spruce.

 

Notes:

No motor vehicles or motorized equipment in the wilderness area.
