Trail 298 Ojitos Canyon Trail

HikingPack and Saddle

Length: 4.5 miles
Difficulty: Difficult
Use: Moderate-Heavy
Seasons: Summer through Fall
Trail Access: From Highway 84 take Forest Road 151 which is a half mile north of the Ghost Ranch Living Museum. Travel 8.5 miles to Forest Road 151 to the Skull Bridge. The Skull Bridge gate is closed. It is wilderness area behind here. The trail begins about .1 mile from the bridge where Forest Road 474 turns sharply to the northwest.

Description:

The trail begins at the south side of the Rio Chama. There are signs guiding into the Wilderness Boundary.

The bottom of the trail at the north portion is flat sage country for the first two miles. The other 2.3 miles go through Ponderosa Pine to Mixed Conifer timber type. The last portion has some steep areas as it climbs the canyon.

bulletNo motor vehicles or motorized equipment in the wilderness area.

bulletThe trail is part of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail and is well marked with post markers with the logo.
