The 91,000 acre Rio Chama Wildlife Management Planned Ignitions Project consists of both planned and unplanned ignitions (natural fire starts, almost always by lightning), bed preparation units where heavy concentrations of large woody material would be piled and burn, and thinning and mulching to protect existing capital investments.
