Background
Southwest Jemez Mountains Restoration is a long-term collaborative effort to restore sustainable ecological forest conditions on a landscape of approximately 210,000 acres in the SW Jemez Mountains. It involves several phases, including strategic-level planning, project-level planning, implementation, and monitoring. The area comprises primarily the entire upper Jemez River watershed, including the nearly 86,000 acre Valles Caldera National Preserve, a portion of the Santa Fe National Forest (110,000 acres), and some state, private and tribal lands.
