Potato Patch Campground

Located atop Mingus Mountain in ponderosa pine forest, this campground offers you cool summertime temperatures and fairly easy access via a paved and winding mountain road.

Elevation: 7,000 Feet

Facilities:

  • 24 Camping Units with Tables, Grills, and Campfire Rings (Loop A) $10 per site per night
  • 3 Accessible Camping Units and 2 Accessible Toilets (Loop A) $10 per site per night
  • 1 Group Camping Unit with space for four vehicles (Loop A) $20 per site per night
  • 10 Camping Units with Tables and Electrical Hookups that can accommodate up to 40 foot long RVs (Loop B) $15 per site per night
  • 2 Accessible Camping Units and 1 Accessible Toilet (Loop B) $15 per site per night
  • Drinking Water
  • Each Site has a 40 foot Paved Driveway

Available: May 1 through October 31

Stay limit: 14 Days

Fees:

  • Campground: $10-$20 per site per night (See "Facilities" above for pricing.)
    (Expanded Amenity Fee - 50% discount for Interagency Senior or Access Pass holders)

Reservations: All of the sites within the campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required.

Access: From Prescott, take U.S. Highway 89 north to Granite Dells, turn right onto U. S. Highway 89A and travel approximately 20 miles to the top of Mingus Mountain. Potato Patch Campground entrance will be to your left at the summit on Forest Road 106.

From the Verde Ranger Station in Camp Verde, travel approximately 20 miles northwest on U.S. Highway 260 going towards the towns of Cottonwood and Clarkdale. At the junction of U.S. Highway 260 and U.S. Highway 89A, turn left and follow the paved and winding mountain road through the town of Jerome up to the summit on Mingus Mountain. The campground turnoff will be to your right which is Forest Road 106.

Travel time: Approximately 60 minutes from Prescott or Camp Verde.

Road condition: Paved highway and paved campground road.

Special attractions:

  • Woodchute Wilderness and Woodchute Trailhead #102.
  • Historic mining town of Jerome 8 miles northeast on U.S. Highway 89A.

General Information:

  • Each camp site usually accommodates one vehicle towing a camp trailer plus one additional vehicle. Vehicles must be parked in space provided on site - not along side the road. Depending on the site, trailers between 22 feet to 40 feet in length can be accommodated.
  • Sites are designed for 5 people; a maximum of 10 is allowed only to accommodate a single large family.
  • Quiet hours must be observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Open fires must be confined within fireplaces, grills or fire rings provided within developed recreation areas.
  • The gathering of dead wood is allowed for campground use only.
