Arizona walnut and live-oaks are interspersed among the ponderosa pines in this boulder strewn campground located within a short drive of the city of Prescott on the Bradshaw Ranger District. A host is available to provide information and assist visitors.

Elevation: 6,000 Feet

Facilities:

  • 20 Camping Units with Tables and Grills
  • 3 Vault Toilets
  • No Drinking Water, Electricity, Dump Station, or Shower Facilities

Available: May 1 through October 31

Stay limit: 14 Days

Fees:

  • Campground: $10 per site per night
    (Expanded Amenity Fee - 50% discount for Interagency Senior or Access Pass holders)

Reservations: All of the sites within the campground are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No reservations are required.

Access: There are two principal access routes to the campground. Depending upon which route you choose, travel on an unpaved road will range from 1.25 to 5 miles.

From Prescott take the Senator Highway (Mt. Vernon Avenue) south for about 6 miles. You will pass the entrance to Goldwater Lake and the community of Groom Creek. The pavement will end about 500 feet before you reach Forest Road 97. Turn right onto Forest Road 97 and travel for another 1.25 miles to the campground on the right of the road. Forest Road 97 is unpaved but is suitable for all vehicles during dry road conditions.

An alternate route from Prescott is to take U.S. Highway 89 (White Spar Road) south for about 6 miles to Forest Road 97. Turn left on Forest Road 97 and go for another 5.1 miles on graded dirt road to the campground.

Travel time: 15 minutes from Prescott

Road condition: Paved, then dirt on Forest Road 97.

General Information:

  • Each camp site usually accommodates one vehicle towing a camp trailer plus one additional vehicle. Vehicles must be parked in space provided on site - not along side the road. Depending on the site, trailers between 22 feet to 40 feet in length can be accommodated.
  • Sites are designed for 5 people; a maximum of 10 is allowed only to accommodate a single large family.
  • Quiet hours must be observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Open fires must be confined within fireplaces, grills or fire rings provided within developed recreation areas.
  • The gathering of dead wood is allowed for campground use only.
