Draft List of Species to be Analyzed in the Ecological Sustainability Process

Revised October 2008

If you are interested in more information about these species, including rationale for inclusion, please contact:

  • USDA Forest Service
    Prescott National Forest
    Attention: Forest Planner - Writer/Editor
    344 S Cortez St
    Prescott AZ 86303
  • Phone: (928) 443-8290
  • Email: comments-southwestern-prescott@fs.fed.us (Please include "Species List Request" in the subject.)

Species will be grouped, where possible, by habitat associations. If, during the ecosystem analysis, no deviation from reference condition is found for the associated habitat system, or if there is a deviation but it is trending toward reference conditions; the habitat needs of the species will be considered to be met and to be sustainable. Otherwise, specific threats to species groups or individual species will be analyzed.

Once all the analysis work is complete, it will be summarized in an Ecological Need for Change document. This information will be combined with the Social and Economic Needs for Change, and the Forest Supervisor will approve a shorter list of high priority needs for change in our Forest Plan. These will be the areas where we will focus our efforts during development of a proposed Revised Plan.

INDEX: Plants | Mammals | Reptiles and Amphibians | Birds | Fish | Invertebrates

  • T&E: Threatened and Endangered – these are species that are federally listed as T&E under the Endangered Species Act (ESA)

  • SOI: Species of Interest – these are species for which management actions may be necessary to achieve ecological or other multiple-use objectives. They may be species for which there are local concerns resulting from declines in habitat, population, and/or distribution, species that are of public interest.
