Prescott National Forest Thanks ResidentsContact: Debbie Maneely, (928) 443-8130 PRESCOTT, AZ, November 17, 2009 - Over the past few months Prescott National Forest has completed numerous prescribed burns across the forest treating approximately 12000 acres. Due to the Prescott's successful fall burn program, we will not be doing any additional prescribed burning through the holidays. After January 1, 2010, opportunities will be pursued to treat hazardous slash piles in the Prescott Basin and in the Mingus/Cherry area. Every effort will be made to keep smoke impacts to a minimum when possible. The objectives of these burns are to restore forest health and to help create defensible space for Prescott and the surrounding forested communities. We acknowledged citizen concerns about smoke generated and the inconvenience to members of our communities; but community support and understanding contributes to the greater good. The Prescott National Forest would like to thank all members of the Tri-City area for their understanding and support of these restoration efforts and assisting in community protection. ###
