PRESCOTT, AZ, September 18, 2009 - Prescott National Forest and the Highlands Center for Natural History are collaborating to bring their second annual "Take A Hike" Hiking Spree to the region this fall. The goal of this program is to get children, adults and families outside hiking the trail system of Prescott National Forest, discovering the joys and benefits that outdoor recreation can provide. The spree begins with a kickoff on Saturday, September 26 at 9:00 am at the Highlands Centers and runs through November 28.

Participants will have 9 weeks to complete eight of the twelve hikes. Hikers earn a wooden hiking stick and a specially designed medallion that can be mounted to sticks. The new 2009 shield is stamped with the beautiful impression of Thumb Butte. To claim your hiking reward, completed forms must be turned into the Highlands Center by November 28 and will be entered into the drawing for a $100.00 gift card compliments of Manzanita Outdoor. Stick and shield are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 17. Shields may be purchased separately for $5.00.

Spree Brochures and detailed maps of each trail will be available at the Highlands Center; the Bradshaw Ranger District, Chino Valley Ranger District, Verde Ranger District and online at www.fs.fed.us/r3/prescott. For more information call the Center at 776-9550.
