Forest Service Hosts Open House for New Verde Ranger StationContact: Debbie Maneely, (928) 443-8130 PRESCOTT, AZ, August 28, 2009 - The Verde Ranger District will host an Open House for the new Verde Ranger Station on Wednesday, September 2, located at 300 East Highway 260, Camp Verde, Arizona. The open house will be from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the ribbon cutting at 9:30. As part of the Open House, the public is invited to view and tour the new Ranger Station. Staff will be on hand to discuss the work of the Forest Service as well as the design and construction of this ‘green’ facility. The Verde Ranger Station, which cost approximately 6.4 million dollars for the design and construction is registered for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification through the United States Green Building Council and is designed to achieve a LEED ‘Silver’ rating. LEED certified buildings are designed to lower operating costs, reduce waste sent to landfills, conserve energy and water, be healthier and safer for occupants, and demonstrate commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. District personnel have been working at the Beaver Creek Ranger Station on the Coconino National Forest during construction of their new facility. To allow for the move, offices at both sites will be closed from Tuesday, September 8 through Friday, September 11. The Verde Ranger Station will re-open to the public on Monday, September 14 in their new building in Camp Verde. For information, maps, or fuelwood permits, please contact the Bradshaw Ranger District at (928) 443-8000 or the Red Rock Ranger District at (928) 282-4119. -END- |
