Apache Archaeology Conference May 15-17, 2003
Pecos River Village Conference Center
Carlsbad, New Mexico
Call for Papers/Posters Registration
A conference on Mescalero and Chiricahua Apache was
held in 1990 in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. A second Apache
conference is long overdue. This conference will focus on recent
Apache archaeological and ethnographic research in the greater
Southwest. Papers are encouraged on early apache sites (1500-1800),
American and Mexican military/Apache battle sites, post-reservation
Apache sites and Apache rock art sites. Both professional and
public participation is encouraged. A field trip is planned to
an 1869 battlefield located on the Lincoln National Forest. Historic
period Apache artifacts will be available for viewing.
