Data sets were brought into ArcView, queried for only the pertinent features and then the symbology was applied. Once the map was finalized it was output to an Adobe Postscript file. A copy of the file was sent to a large format plotter for hard copy production. A copy of the ArcView project file developed to produce the map product, along with a copy of the postscript output file were saved on the hard disk, and later to CD-ROM backup media as an archive.
After the decision was made to provide general public access to the WUI maps, the archived data, APR file and output postscript file were loaded back onto a production machine. After making any necessary edits to the map, a new postscript file was generated. Also at this time, the necessary metadata (this file) was generated to provide a lineage reference to those accessing the map.
