CONTINUED IMPROVEMENTS

AT PARKER CANYON LAKE

Construction to Begin May 7

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (April 30, 2010)

The Sierra Vista Ranger District, Coronado National Forest, will begin construction on a public road improvement project at Parker Canyon Lake on May 10, 2010. Work to be accomplished includes resurfacing of roads and marina parking lots. Resurfacing is necessary because the paving has exceeded its useful life. The work will ensure continued passenger vehicle access to the facilities served by the roads and parking lots. The project is being funded by the Recovery Act.

Work to be accomplished will be done in phases. On May 10, resurfacing of the lower, middle, and upper marina parking lots along with the road from the marina to the Stop sign at the Highway 83 intersection will begin. It is expected to be completed at the end of May.

Between May 10 and June 25, the road will be repaved from the cattle guard on Highway 83 above the marina turn-off  to the gate at the Rock Bluff Group Site.

Future construction will include repaving of loop roads and the replacement of the water systems and toilets in the Lakeview Campground areas, and installation of a new well. Information regarding these projects will be released in the near future.

At this point no closures are anticipated. To protect public safety traffic control will be used to allow single-lane use of roads. As some parking lots are under construction, others will alternately be open.
