Ramsey Vista Campground

Campsites here are spread through a stand of medium-sized ponderosa pines at the end of a road that once brought miners and equipment to the historic Reef mine and townsite. From the high perspective provided by the campground, Ramsey Peak’s tall, layer-cake summit stands above the surrounding landscape as a tempting destination for an overnight backpack or long day-hike.

Two major trails leave from the campground to connect to a broader network of trails which lead to some of the most beautiful destinations in the Huachucas. Comfort Springs Trail drops off the campground ridge, first into Carr Canyon, and then into Ramsey Canyon known for its lush streamside vegetation and diverse bird population. Carr Peak Trail (not recommended for horses) goes to Carr Peak and the Crest Trail.

The campground provides views not only of Ramsey Peak, but of Carr Peak, Carr Canyon, the town of Sierra Vista, and the San Pedro Valley.

Location: Near the end of Carr Canyon Road above the “Reef” rock formation in the Huachuca Mountains.

Access: From Tucson, drive east on Interstate 10 to State Route 90 (exit 302). Drive south 25 miles through Sierra Vista. Eight miles south of Sierra Vista on State Highway 92 turn west onto Carr Canyon Road (FR 368). It is 7 miles to the end of the road and Ramsey Vista Campground.
