TUCSON, AZ (April 27, 2011) – The Coronado National Forest along with the Southwestern Regional Office has posted a partial response regarding the requested documents to the USDA Forest Service’s Southwestern Region E-FOIA Reading Room.

Easter Weekend Recreational Opportunities

TUCSON, AZ (April 20, 2011) – Coronado National Forest officials are expecting large numbers of visitors to the Forest’s most popular campgrounds and picnic areas over Easter weekend, April 22 - 24. Fire danger is high and visitors are urged to use extreme caution building, maintaining and extinguishing fires.

Duke Fire Smoke Continues

SIERRA VISTA, AZ (April 6, 2011) – The Coronado National Forest, Sierra Vista Ranger District is expecting smoke from the Duke Fire, a recent wildfire in the Patagonia Mountains, to be visible for several weeks to come.

MECHANICAL THINNING PROJECT TO BEGIN IN MADERA CANYON
TUCSON, AZ (September 18, 2009) To reduce the potential for a hazardous wildland fire, Forest Service crews will initiate a mechanical thinning project to remove accumulations of dense vegetation in lower Madera Canyon on Monday, September 21, 2009.

NOGALES RANGER DISTRICT FUELWOOD APPLICATIONS
NOGALES, AZ (September 8, 2009) The Nogales Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest has fuelwood applications available. The season will be Thursday, October 1, 2009 through Saturday, October 31 2009.

LABOR DAY HOLIDAY WEEKEND ON CORONADO NATIONAL FOREST
TUCSON, AZ (September 2, 2009) – A variety of recreational opportunities are available for visitors to the Coronado National Forest this holiday weekend. Following are tips for an enjoyable and safe weekend.

REEF CAMPGROUND IN HUACHUCAS REOPENS
TUCSON, AZ (August 18, 2009) – Reef Campground in the Huachuca Mountains has reopened. The campground, on the Sierra Vista Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest, was temporarily closed due to bear activity in the area.

BEARS -- Increased Activity in Developed Campgrounds
SAFFORD, AZ (July 24, 2009) – The Coronado National Forest, Safford Ranger District, has seen an increase in bear activity on the Pinaleño Mountain range. Human-Bear encounters are happening and we have an opportunity to prevent that.

REEF CAMPGROUND IN HUACHUCAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED -- Black Bear Activity in the Area
TUCSON, AZ (July 16, 2009) – Reef Campground in the Huachuca Mountains will be closed for two weeks beginning July 17 due to black bear activity in the area.

FOREST SERVICE TO CONSIDER OFFERING MADERA CANYON CABIN FOR OVERNIGHT RENTAL
TUCSON, AZ (June 8, 2009) – The Coronado National Forest will soon be completing renovation of a cabin located in Madera Canyon, 15 miles east of Green Valley. The Kent Spring Cabin will accommodate a maximum of 8 people.

JULY 4TH HOLIDAY WEEKEND ON CORONADO NATIONAL FOREST
TUCSON, AZ (July 2, 2009) – A variety of recreational opportunities are available for visitors to the Coronado National Forest this holiday weekend Due to hot, dry conditions across much of the forest, officials once again stress the importance of responsible recreating on public lands.

MARSHALL GULCH PICNIC AREA REOPENS -- Will Be Available for Holiday Weekend
TUCSON, AZ (July 2, 2009) – The popular Marshall Gulch Picnic Area on Mt. Lemmon will reopen at 9:00 Friday morning, July 3. The area has been closed due to damage from storm run-off and snowmelt over the past two winters, which had narrowed the roadway to one lane.
