**Many reservoirs located on National Forest System lands are at serious threat by Quagga and Zebra Mussels. New boating restrictions are taking place this year. Boaters should be aware of the following potential situations:

  1. Some boat ramps may be completely closed;
  2. Open boat ramps may have restricted hours of operation;
  3. Mandatory boat inspections may be required at stations in place at various reservoirs; or,
  4. Mandatory inspections may be required to have been performed prior to arrival and launch at your favorite boating location.

To help reduce the potential for spread of these mussels, boaters should always remember to follow these three steps: clean, drain and dry your boat. Before you go boating, check with the local Forest Service or Colorado Division of Wildlife office to find out about any restrictions.

The most current source of information about the Zebra and Quagga Mussel issue is the Colorado Division of Wildlife web site.
