Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Region (R2) Web site for Wilderness Forums, Field Trips and Core Team

In 2006, the R2 Wilderness staff hosted three Wilderness Forums. The Forums were designed to bring wilderness users, partners and stakeholders together to dialogue about future growth in Colorado and the management of recreation use in popular Colorado wilderness areas.

Additionally, three on-site Field Trips were conducted in the summer of 2006 to look at resource impacts at specific high use "magnet" areas such as popular lake basins, 14ers and other features in wilderness that draw large use.

The Core Team was formed in August 2006, as a volunteer group to gather the information learned from the wilderness forums and field trips into a Summary Report. The Core Team will present its recommendations to the Regional Forester and Colorado Forest Supervisors on December 18th, 2006 related to managing recreation use in popular Colorado wilderness areas.
