Safety of visitors is always the number one concern of the US Forest Service. One of the effects of the current mountain pine beetle infestation is the danger of beetle-killed trees falling in campgrounds on several of the Rocky Mountain Region's national forests. In the list of campgrounds below, you will find which will be closed for the summer, along with those which will have delayed openings, so that the hazard trees can be removed. If the campground you are interested in has been closed or will have a delayed opening, please call the Ranger District office closest to the campground you are interested in for updated information. If you have a campsite reservation in an affected campground, you will be notified. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Whether you’re driving a motor home, pulling a trailer or just looking for a place to pitch a tent, one of the over 500 campgrounds in the 17 national forests and 7 national grasslands managed by the US Forest Service's Rocky Mountain Region in Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and most of South Dakota and Wyoming will have a spot just right for you! Most campgrounds in the Rocky Mountain Region are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The campgrounds in this list are sorted by state, national forest and/or grassland and ranger district (RD). Consult the corresponding National Forest and Grassland Visitor Map for the specific location of each campground. Purchase firewood locally to protect our forests. Destructive insects and diseases can get a free ride into our Region in firewood brought in from out of state. For more information, contact the US Forest

In the tables that follow, campgrounds accepting reservations are marked with Reserve Now in the Reservations column and you can click on Reserve Now to be taken to the Web page for that particular campground to make your reservation. NOTE: Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance of your stay. All the other campgrounds are on a 1ST COME - 1ST SERVED basis. As a general rule of thumb, most campgrounds that accept reservations will keep roughly 1/3 of the campsites on a 1ST COME - 1ST SERVED basis. If you are going to go camping during a weekend, you should try and get to the campground by Thursday evening to increase your chances of getting one of the 1ST COME - 1ST SERVED campsites.
Reservations may be made through a toll-free number: 1-877-444-6777 or online at: www.recreation.gov.
To make a reservation over the phone, give the name of the campground, the National Forest it is located in, and your American Express, Discover/Novus, Mastercard or Visa credit card number. There is a non-refundable $9.00 charge, per reservation, for each site. A $10.00 fee will be charged for each site reservation cancelled. Reservations may be made up to 240 days in advance of your stay, and must be made at least 5 days in advance of your stay.
