Campground Opening/Closing Dates

Lake George/Tarryall Area/11-Mile Canyon Area: Open first weekend in May thru the first weekend in October (weather permitting).

Fairplay/Jefferson Area: Open mid-to-late May thru the first weekend in October (weather permitting).

Other Campgrounds: Open when accessible through the first weekend in October.

Campgrounds open year-round with no services include: Riverside, Happy Meadows, Twin Eagles, & Buffalo Springs.

 

CAMPGROUND NOTES:
  *  Lake George Area Campgrounds include: Riverside, Spillway, Happy Meadows, Round Mountain, Spruce Grove, and Twin Eagles.
  *  Fairplay Area Campgrounds include: Aspen, Jefferson Creek, Lodgepole, Horseshoe, Fourmile, Buffalo Springs, and Michigan Creek.
  *  Other Campgrounds include: Kite Lake, Selkirk, Lost Park, and Weston Pass.

  *Reservations and full service begin mid-May.

FULL SERVICE consists of trash service, water, and daily cleaning at Aspen, Jefferson Creek, Lodgepole, and Jefferson Lake and at Riverside, Spillway, Happy Meadows, Round Mountain, Spruce Grove, Blue Mountain, Springer Gulch, and Cove (from the third week in May through Labor Day.

LIMITED SERVICE at Lost Park, Michigan Creek, Selkirk, Kite Lake and Weston Pass consists of: No trash service (pack it in, pack it out), cleaning four times per week, no water at Michigan Creek, Selkirk or Kite Lake. Water is available at Michigan Creek and Weston Pass.

Senior Access Passport Holders are entitled to a 50% discount on camping and use fees. This discount applies to their site/vehicle only. Discount does not apply to annual pass purchase.

Campsites not reserved revert to first come, first served.

Pay per visit or purchase a season pass. One season pass (Jan 1-Dec 31 of each year) may be used at all of our Use Permit areas.

Purchase on site. The Annual Pass is valid for all Use Permit areas on the Pike and San Isabel National Forest.

All food, refuse and other bear attractants must be stored in a bear resistant manner at all times, unless you are in the process of preparing or eating your food or are transporting it (such as in backpacks).

PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT

Lost Park, Michigan Creek, Selkirk, Twin Eagles, and Weston Pass Campgrounds (no trash pickup), Kite Lake (no fires, no water or trash pickup); water is available at Weston Pass Campground.

Dispersed camping is not allowed in Elevenmile Canyon Recreation Area, Jefferson Lake Recreation Area or Happy Meadows area--In these areas, you must be in a campground.

FAIRPLAY

There are four Forest Service Campgrounds in the Fairplay area. Campsites at Fourmile and Weston Pass Campgrounds are on a first come, first served basis. Horseshoe and Buffalo Springs have sites by reservation. Fourmile campground is located 9 miles west of Fairplay via Hwy 285 and County Road 18. You can travel to Weston Pass campground by going 15 miles southwest of Fairplay via Hwy 285 and County Roads 5 and 22. It is near Weston Pass. If you would like to visit Horseshoe campground you will travel 8 miles west of Fairplay via Hwy 285 and County Road 18. You will be close to fishing and hiking areas. Buffalo Springs campground is located 12.5 miles south of Fairplay via Hwy 285 and County Road 431. Games of volleyball and horseshoes can be played here. Some campgrounds have a manager to assist you with your needs.

If you travel 8 miles north of Como CR 33, it will lead you right to Selkirk Campground. This is a beautiful pack it in and pack it out campground. You will find toilets, tables and fire rings at this first come, first served campground. There is no drinking water or trash removal available at this location.

JEFFERSON

The Jefferson Lake Recreation Area is located approximately four miles northwest of Jefferson on County Roads 35 & 37 and is at the base of the Continental Divide amongst a lodgepole pine forest. Dispersed camping is NOT allowed in the area, YOU MUST CAMP IN A CAMPGROUND! Jefferson Lake is at 10,687 feet in elevation and covers approximately 185 acres. All of these campsites are under the reservation system. Reserve your site well in advance. Jefferson area campgrounds fill up early most weekends throughout the summer. Some campgrounds have a manager to help you with your needs. All campgrounds are equipped with drinking water, toilets, picnic tables and fire rings. Dump stations for RV's are available near Fairplay.

The Michigan Creek Campground is close to Jefferson but not in the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area.

Michigan Creek Campground is a pack it in, pack it out campground. This campground is four miles NW of Jefferson and County Roads 35/54.

ALMA

To visit the Kite Lake Campground, you need to take County Road 8 5.5 miles northwest of Alma. This campground is a pack it in and pack it out area. Not recommended for trailers. No campfires are allowed at this campground. There is no drinking water or trash removal at this location, but you will find toilets and tables. The estimated acreage of Kite Lake is 11. Located at an elevation of 12,000 ft, Kite Lake Campground is the highest campground in Colorado.

TARRYALLS

All camping in the Tarryall area campgrounds are first come, first served basis only. There are three campgrounds: Happy Meadows Campground (No dispersed camping in this area) is located 2.75 miles north of Lake George via Hwy 24 and County Roads 77/112. This campground has toilets, water tables and fire rings. Spruce Grove located 12.75 miles north of Lake George via Hwy 24 and County Rd. 77. (Or approximately 35 miles south of Jefferson on County Road 77) Campsites have toilets, water, picnic tables and fire rings. Some sites are walk-ins. Twin Eagles Trailhead is located 14.25 miles north of Lake George via Hwy 24 and County Road 77. There is no drinking water, but toilets, tables and fire rings are available. Some of the sites are walk-ins.

Lost Park Campground is near Lost Creek Wilderness. If you travel 21 miles southeast of Jefferson via Hwy 285 and County Road 56, you will come upon this pack it in, pack it out campground with  toilets, water, tables and fire rings. First come, first served.

LAKE GEORGE

Blue Mountain Campground can be accessed by traveling 1.5 miles south of Lake George via County Roads 96 and 61. This campground is equipped with toilets, tables, water and fire rings.

Round Mountain Campground is located 6.5 miles northwest of Lake George on Highway 24. This campground is equipped with toilets, water, tables and fire rings at this location.

11 MILE CANYON

All of the four campgrounds located at 11 Mile Canyon have toilets, water, tables and fire rings and can be reserved. IN THE ELEVENMILE CANYON, YOU MUST CAMP ONLY IN THE CAMPGROUNDS! Cove Campground is located 9 miles southwest of Lake George via County Road and 96 . To get to Springer Gulch Campground, take County Roads 96 6.75 miles southwest of Lake George. If you like to play horseshoes, you will find a horseshoe pit at Riverside Campground. It is located 2 miles southwest of Lake George via County Road 96. If you travel 10 miles southwest of Lake George via County Road 96, you will be at the Spillway Campground, which is located at the dam of the Elevenmile Reservoir. Make your reservations, these campgrounds fill up fast.
