Lynx Amendment
The Forest Service has prepared two regional environmental impact statements and records of decision to amend Forest Plans by adding consistent management direction that will promote conservation of the Canada lynx, a species listed as Threatened under the Endangered Species Act, while preserving the overall multiple-use direction in existing Forest Plans.
The Northern Rockies Lynx Amendment applies to 18 national forests in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, including the Shoshone and Bighorn national forests in Wyoming, which are part of the Rocky Mountain Region.
The Southern Rockies Lynx Amendment applies to seven national forests in Colorado: the Arapaho-Roosevelt; Pike-San Isabel; White River; Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre, and Gunnison; Rio Grande; San Juan; and Routt national forests, as well as the Medicine Bow National Forest in southern Wyoming.
The record of decision for the Northern Rockies Lynx Amendment was signed on March 23, 2007. The final environmental impact statement can be found on the Northern Region Web site.
The record of decision for the Southern Rockies Lynx Amendment was signed on October 28, 2008. The final environmental impact statement and other documents can be found on the Rocky Mountain Region Web site.
