Camping and Picnicking
Developed
Campgrounds
Both developed and dispersed camping are available. Developed camping
can be found in 53 campgrounds. Some campgrounds accept reservations.
Information on making reservations will be found on the developed
campground page. Developed campgrounds typically have a parking spur,
picnic table and fire grate. Restroom facilities are generally vault toilets.
Many campgrounds also have drinking water and dumpsters. Water may not
be available after the Labor Day weekend. Some campgrounds have electrical
hook-ups. Please see individual campground descriptions for more information.
Dispersed Camping
There are many undeveloped areas on national forest land where people
may camp. Please check with land management agencies to obtain information
on restrictions, required permits and fire danger. Under Colorado law,
it is your responsibility to know if you are on private land.
Picnicking
There are several picnic areas scattered throughout the forest. Whether
having a picnic is your primary activity, or you just need a place to
stop for lunch while traveling, you will find convenient locations in
lovely settings. These day-use areas are open to the public from sunrise
to sunset. Some picnic areas are incorporated into a developed campground
and may charge a fee. The stand-alone picnic areas do not charge a fee.
