Suntaheen Creek Fishpass Interpretive Trail

Map showing parking and trailhead along Road 8530 and short trail to Suntaheen Creek fishpass.

Two hikers read an interpretive sign and look over the water flowing through the Suntaheen fishpass. The Suntaheen Fishpass Trail is located 13 miles south of Hoonah along Forest Road 8530. A short boardwalk with interpretive displays explains the life cycle of salmon and the functioning of this a fish ladder. During salmon runs, it is possible to look downward into the plunge pool below Suntaheen Falls where fish rest before swimming up the fish ladder. Bears are sometimes attracted to the pools where they feed on the returning fish.
