Coyote Beach
A
short trail leads from Forest road 8530 to Coyote Beach, 25 miles south
of Hoonah. Named for a rock, which from a certain angle creates the profile
of a coyote, this is a nice place to spend a quiet afternoon. The rocky
beach provides opportunities for viewing marine life on rocks, watching
passing whales, and enjoying the view of Chatham Strait.
Wukuklook Beach Trail
This half-mile barrier free boardwalk leads from Forest road 8530 to
Wukuklook Beach, at the confluence of Wukuklook Creek and Chatham Strait.
The trail winds through a combination of arching Sitka spruce forest and
open meadowland before reaching the mile-long crescent of 
Wukuklook
Beach. From the beach you are presented with a panoramic view of Chatham
Strait, where you may see marine traffic and passing whales. Looking inland,
the estuary of Wukuklook Creek provides a dramatic foreground against
the rocky backdrop of Sonyakay Ridge. This is bear country; be cautious
when hiking the trail, and particularly when salmon are spawning in the
creek. Practice bear-smart
