Bear Paw Lake

 

Map showing Bear Paw Lake trail off road 8508 near Freshwater Bay.Located 25 miles from Hoonah, along Forest road 8508, a short walk leads to the lake. At the lake you will find two picnic tables, fire rings, and opportunities for fishing and nature viewing. The outlet creek is crossed by a trail bridge, which Hikers stand in the middle of a wooden bridge over a narrow waterway surrounded by tall grasses and ferns on the trail to Bear Paw Lake.provides an opportunity to observe fish and water birds. Along the lake shore beaver have built a den, and can often be seen in the lake. A Forest Service supplied boat can be found on the lakeshore, but be sure to bring your own oars.

 

Hikers sit at a sturdy picnic table on a wooden platform at the edge of Bear Paw Lake. A beaver den sits at the far side of a narrow channel, backed  by tall grasses.
