Tongass Home » Recreation Activities » Campgrounds Ohmer Creek CampgroundOhmer Creek Campground is 22 miles south of Petersburg on the Mitkof Highway (turn right out of the ferry terminal parking lot). The road is paved and in good condition all the way to the campground. The campground has 10 sites suitable for tents or trailers up to 35 feet long. Each site has a parking pad, picnic table, and grill. Two sites are barrier-free. Drinking water and wheelchair-accessible vault-type toilets are centrally located. In the summer, a volunteer campground host is at your service. No RV hook-ups or dump facilities are provided. Next to the campground is the Ohmer Creek Trail, a barrier-free ¼-mile interpretive trail that winds through a stand of mature temperate rainforest. Beyond the barrier-free portion of the trail, a single plank trail continues another 1 mile. When you reach Snake Ridge Road, turn left to complete the loop along the road back to the trailhead. Ohmer Creek offers fair to good trout and salmon fishing in late summer and fall. King salmon return to the creek in the fall. The Ohmer Creek Campground is a beautiful place to spend a night or a whole week. There is a small camping fee; maximum stay is 14 days. |
