Recreational Activities » Campgrounds Campgrounds Near JuneauAuke Village Campground (Forest Service):Near scenic beach, once a village site for the Auk Tlingit Natives. From ferry terminal, turn left and travel 1.5 miles; 15 miles NW of Juneau on Glacier Highway. Has been reconstructed. Open May 15 - September 30. Fee of $10 per night. Each campsite has picnic table and fire ring; most are accessible. Water faucets and accessible toilets throughout campground. 11 camping sites. Mendenhall Lake Campground (Forest Service):On Mendenhall Lake, in view of Mendenhall Glacier, about 13 miles from downtown Juneau. Open May 15 - September 15. Some advanced reservations at www.ReserveUSA.com or 1-877-444-6777. Check in with campground host near entrance. 69 camping sites. Sites include:
All have tent pads, accessible picnic tables and fire grills. Water faucets and vault toilets throughout campground. Central dump station on site. Campground host and garbage dumpster near entrance. Firewood rarely provided; best to bring your own (no pallets). Maximum stay 14 days. To reach campground: From ferry terminal, turn right and travel 1.7 miles to DeHarts Store above Auke Bay marinas. Turn left up hill to Back Loop Road, 2.5 miles to Montana Creek Road, turn left and travel .3 mile to Skater's Cabin Road. Turn right and travel .3 mile to campground. From downtown Juneau, Take Egan Drive northwest 8 miles to stoplight intersection of Mendenhall Loop Road. Turn right 2.2 miles to intersection of Back Loop Road. Turn left 1.4 miles to intersection of Montana Creek Road. Turn right .3 mile to Skater's Cabin Road. Turn right .3 mile to campground. Savikko RV Park (City and Borough of Juneau):In historic gold mining community of Douglas, 3 miles from downtown Juneau. 4 spaces for RVs only, without hookups. Water, dump station, dumpster at park's maintenance shop; public restrooms in recreation area. No fee; permit required from the Harbor Master's office at 1600 Harbor Way, just north of pedestrian overpass on Egan Drive. Maximum stay 3 days. For more information, call (907) 586-5255. Eagle Beach State Park (State of Alaska):¼ mile south of Eagle Beach Picnic Area, about 28 mile Glacier Highway. Campground open May 1 to October 1. Recreation area open year round. 16 camp sites. Park host on site. Vault toilet provided; bring your own water and pack out your garbage. Camp sites $10 per night; recreation area day use $5/vehicle/day. Maximum stay 15 days.
