Route:

  • From Papke's Landing, 11 mi (18 km) S of Petersburg by road, S on Wrangell Narrows. Leave on ebb tide for favorable current. Wrangell Narrows has very strong currents that require tidal planning.
  • At Beecher Pass, head west toward Duncan Canal.
  • N up Duncan Canal.
  • Return down opposite coast of Duncan Canal and retrace route to Papke's Landing.

Castle Island group is wonderful area to explore, as is Salt Chuck at N of Duncan Canal. Forest Service cabins available for rent on the route; must be reserved in advance.
