Grant Application for Kiln Drying Facilities

Grant applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2005

Background

The USDA Forest Service is accepting applications for cost-share kiln-drying facilities in Alaska. Those entities selected in this pre-application process will be required to complete an application for federal assistance package.

Eligible Applicants and Facilities

Eligible applicants are those entities capable of developing and operating cost-share kiln-drying facilities. Funding consideration will be given to new or upgraded facilities such as:

• Stacking and Unstacking Equipment

• Pre-dryers
• Planers
• Dry Lumber
• Protection Facilities
• Dry Kilns
• Air Drying Sheds

**Recipients of 2001 – 2003 Kiln Drying Facilities Grants are eligible to apply; however, no previous in-kind or matching facility will qualify as match for this grant.

Project Area & Timeline

Project area includes the entire state of Alaska. Grant applications will be considered for projects that require less than two years to complete. Applicants should assume funds will be available in August 2005.

Funding Available

The USDA Forest Service anticipates having approximately $640,000 available for award. This program is for cost-share facilities; the Federal contribution will not exceed 60% of the total project cost. Successful applicants can access funds based on a reimbursable basis or thirty-day advance process for the USDA Forest Service portion of the expenditures.
