Contact: Mike Dilger, 907-789-6228 Juneau, Alaska, August 9 - An aggressive brown bear has been encountered on the trail between Davidson Lake and Mitchell Bay on Admiralty Island, according the Admiralty National Monument staff. The trail section is part of the cross-Admiralty canoe route. A trail crew encountered the bear while performing work on the trail about a half mile from the shelter on Davidson Lake. As the bear may have been defending a food cache, the crew perceived the bear as a great enough threat to abandon the work site and relocate to a new work site on a different trail. Potential trail users are advised to avoid the area for the next several weeks.
