An aerial view over the end of Hubbard Glacier from Disenchantment Bay toward Russell Fiord shows a narrow opening at the mouth of the fiord and evidence of active calving off the glacier's face.

An aerial view looking east along the face of Hubbard Glacier and into Russell Fiord shows the glacier approaching Gilbert Point. As a point of reference, the rock face of Gilbert Point is about 350 feet (107 meters) high. (1,204 kb)
A view from near Gilbert Point showing both glacier and point as well as the western portion of Russell Fiord. The glacier face curves around the jutting point of rock that is Point Gilbert. A closer view of the mouth of Russell Fiord from Disenchantment Bay. (850 kb)
Another view of the gap between Hubbard Glacier and Gilbert Point, this one looking down and slightly to the west, gives a different perspective. (936 kb) An overhead shot looking almost directly down at Point Gilbert and Hubbard Glacier shows chunks of ice moving with the current through the narrow opening between ice and rock.

This view from Disenchantment Bay into Russell Fiord shows the snowy flatlands on the north shore of the fiord and the curved opening between fiord and bay. (1,171 kb)
A view west from Russell Fiord over the north end of Disenchantment Bay with the Wrangell-St. Elias Mountains and Turner Glacier in the background. (1,254 kb)

May 12

A view looking east from Disenchantment Bay shows mountains and plains dwarfing Hubbard Glacier as it curves around Gilbert Point.

A view from Disenchantment Bay toward the mouth of Russell Fiord shows trails of ice and slush carried by the tidal currents. (1,343 kb)
Hubbard Gacier's broken surface curves toward Gilbert Point in a photo that shows tidal current patterns and what appears to be an island of dirt ahead of the glacier's face. A look back toward where the above photo was taken shows the mass of ice curved toward Gilbert Point. Currents are more evident here. What appears to be a terminal morraine lies off the glacier's face at the lower left. (1,310 kb)
