Fishing Around Wrangell

Stikine River meanders through a wide green valley in its journey through the Coast Range. The Wrangell Ranger District covers roughly 1.7 million acres that include both island and mainland habitats. Although the Alaska Department of Fish and Game manages the fishing, the Forest Service manages the fish habitat.

Wrangell's fisheries range from small, isolated resident trout/char populations to the large salmon runs on the Stikine River. You'll find this area abounds in fishing opportunities to test the skills of any angler.

Mill Creek tumbles between rocky banks covered with old-growth evergreen trees.Investigate the links at the right for information about some of the better freshwater fishing opportunities around the district and a little bit about who we are and what we do as a program.
