Respect Other Users
Everyone is being asked to compromise what they want on Kruzof Island. Everyone enjoys Iris Meadows and Shelikof beaches.
1. Don't be a road hog.
Hikers should leave room for less maneuverable vehicles to pass. Remember the trail to North Beach was built with ATV's in mind. ATV's should give as much room as possible when passing hikers.2. North Beach Cabin
Those who rent this cabin do not rent the beach. North Beach is designated for ATV's while other beaches are not. Expect others, including ATV's to be using the beach while you are there.3. Noise doesn't equal horsepower. In fact, not enough exhaust back-pressure can mean less power and it can even cause engine damage.
4. Keep RPM's and speed low and steady around non-riders.
Even a quiet bike can seem loud. It depends on how and where you ride. Harassment won't win respect from anyone.Iris Meadows Provides Wildlife Habitat
1. Stay on trail. Riding off the trail can destroy animal burrows and kill vegetation used for food.
2. Animal requirements. Some animals need to store water and energy in their bodies for hot summers or long winters. If you chase or unnecessarily scare animals, they may be forced to use up valuable reserves.
3. Fawning or nesting season. Letting animals reproduce undisturbed means more creatures to watch and enjoy later.
4. Be quiet. Keep your trail bike or ATV quiet. Revving your engine for no reason can scare animals and a frightened animal may jump in your path.
5. Dangerous encounters. Animals in the wild often become accustomed to the sound of engines. The chance of a dangerous encounter with a bear increases as they become used to people and noise.
6. Crossing streams. Cross streams at designated spots. Crossing elsewhere can stir up silt, and that's bad for fish.
