Kruzof Island Off-Highway Vehicle Use
To protect natural resources please stay on designated trails and roads shown on mapHarassing wildlife is a violation of State Law.The forest at North Beach is valuable deer winter range. Damaging vegetation by riding on it reduces important winter food for deer. Riding in streams and on lakeshores is a violation of state law.It can stir up silt, and damage areas that fish depend on. Cross streams only where protected with built stone fords. Most stream/ road intersections have these in place. North Beach and CabinOHVs are allowed on North Beach. Firewood at the cabin is for those reserving the cabin. Please do not burn firewood for the cabin in outside firepits. People depend on it to heat the cabin. If cutting your own firewood cut only dead or downed trees. Respect Other UsersEveryone enjoys the beauty of Kruzof Island. Keep it beautiful for future generations. Share the roads.Hikers should leave room for less maneuverable vehicles to pass. OHVs should give as much room as possible and slow down when passing others. Protect your privilege to rideBe SafeKnow your equipment, your ability, and current conditions. Keep your equipment in good repair and carry supplies for changes in weather. Let someone know where you are going and when you expect to return. A well planned trip is fun for you and not a burden to others. The road between Mud Bay and Iris Meadows was designed for a maximum speed of 10 MPH. Limited visibility and rough riding surfaces make riding at speeds higher than this dangerous and is not recommended. Some animals in the wild become accustomed to the sound of engines. The chance of a dangerous encounter with a bear increases as they become used to people and noise. Pack out what you pack in!Developed with the assistance of Sitka Recreational Riders, Inc.
