DESCRIPTION:
The Sarkar Lakes Canoe Route is a great midlevel canoe trip for all ages.
It takes approximately two days to complete the route. The longest
portage (portage 1) is one half mile long.
LOCATION:
The Sarkar Lakes Canoe Route begins at the Sarkar boat launch, located
on Forest Road 20, approximately 26 miles northwest from Control Lake

Terrain: The Sarkar Lakes Canoe Route is
mostly a lake paddle with various islands to meander around.
The portages range from two tenths of a mile to a half mile
in distance. The portages are all boardwalk trails, which
traverse muskegs or forests. Use caution as the boardwalks
may be slippery.
Special Considerations: Winds on the
water may cause treacherous conditions for boaters, plan
ahead and prepare for changing weather conditions. Wear
recommended personal floatation devices when boating.

FEATURES:
The Sarkar Lakes Canoe Route offers boaters the opportunity to enter
a relatively pristine area of lakes and islands. Salmon streams enter
the lake along the route and bears and deer are frequently seen in this
area. Bird watchers are also drawn to the Sarkar area because of its
wide array of waterfowl.

The canoe route also offers opportunities to stay overnight
in Sarkar
Lake Cabin, which can be reserved at: Recreation.gov.

Discharging firearms is prohibited within 150 yards of buildings,
campsites, developed recreation sites, or occupied areas
Fireworks or other explosives are prohibited
Use only fire rings provided by the Forest

Do NOT feed or approach bears!
Water for consumption should be treated
or boiled
Rubber boots, rain gear and insect repellent
are recommended
