DESCRIPTION:
The Eagle's Nest Campground has 12 sites, ten drive-in sites and two walk-in sites located on Balls Lake . One centrally located, two-stall bathroom services the campground. Eagle's Nest is perfect for families traveling through Prince of Wales Island that want to stop and rest at a beautiful, well-cared for campground in the center of the island. Eagle's Nest also offers an accessible interpretive trail that describes the salmon cycle in the stream.

LOCATION:
You can reach Eagle's Nest Campground from Forest Highway 42 (State Highway 925). The campground is only two miles east of Control Lake Junction. USGS Map: Craig C-2.

 

CAMPGROUND:

Campground Fee : $8.00

Stay Limit: 14 Days

Number of Sites: 12 (10 drive-in, 2 tent sites)

Facilities: Vault Toilet, tent site, fire ring, bear-proof trash receptacles, host service and fee collection.

Distance: 0.5 miles (one way)

Trip Time: 20 minutes (one way)

Difficulty: Easy

Elevation Change: 0 feet

Trail Tread: The Eagle's Nest Interpretive Trail is all yellow cedar boardwalk.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
The Eagle's Nest campground offers something for all visitors. A boat launch on Balls Lake provides a launching point for campers with canoes or kayak. Some people may choose to boat on the lake, others may fish from shore for trout and Dolly Varden. The Balls Lake Trail offers a 2.5-mile hike all the way around the lake, where swans, kingfisher and ducks may be seen along with an array of riparian plants. The accessible Eagle's Nest Interpretive Trail provides a path through huge spruce trees, beside Control Creek, where salmon reds (eggs) may be viewed.

SAFETY TIPS:
•  Discharging firearms is prohibited within 150 yards of buildings, campsites, developed recreation sites, or occupied areas

•  Fireworks or other explosives are prohibited

•  Use only fire rings provided by the Forest Service

•  Be respectful of others and keep your pets under control

•  Do NOT feed or approach bears!

•  Water for consumption should be treated or boiled

•  Rubber boots, rain gear and insect repellent are recommended
