Getting Ready
Getting there and gearing up
You
can reach El Capitan Cave by vehicle, boat or plane. El Cap may reached
by following FS Road 20 to the north end of El Capitan Passage.
From here turn on to FS Road 15 and proceed west approximately one mile.
Watch for signs to El Capitan Cave (see
maps). There is also a Forest Service dock for use by boats and
planes, but your boat or plane cannot be left unattended.
A Forest Service guided tour is the only way to visit El Cap. Once you
arrive at the recreation site,
you will
be greeted
by
a Forest
Service
interpreter and provided with the necessary safety gear. You will need
to bring at least one flashlight per person and extra AA batteries (for
your head lamp). Be sure to wear warm clothing and sturdy footwear.
Hard hats are required and are
provided
at the site
by the Forest Service.
