This is the largest surveyed cave in Alaska with 12,000
feet of surveyed passageway. The guided tour follows the
first 600 feet of the 1600 foot main passage. A map of the
cave is available in several sizes.
The trek into the first part of the cave is the hardest
part of the journey. You climb over immense boulders that
were carried long distances by grinding glaciers and then
deposited in the mouth of the cave. The ceilings are low; "Watch
your head!" is frequently heard over the exertions of your
group. |

As the tour descends past the boulders, you are asked
to turn off your light. In the semi-darkness, you can see
light filtering into the cave through the small holes that
lead to the surface. This area of the cave, just past the
entrance, is referred to as the twilight zone. |
