Wildlife Monitoring

Most of our wildlife monitoring work is oriented towards habitat. Wildlife population studies are generally conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. They have a variety of Technical Publications & Reports available on-line.

Current projects:

Precommercial thinning monitoring- Wildlife Emphasis

Photo Point Monitoring of Slash Depth

This project is designed to use established photo points to monitor the change in slash depth over time in thinned second growth. We want to determine how long it takes for slash to decompose to where it no longer inhibits movement of large mammals.

The purpose of this project is to monitor the use of nest boxes by small forest owls. We are also conducting night surveys for singing male owls during the spring breeding season.
