The Logjam Environmental
Impact Statement (EIS) evaluated a timber harvest
project located in the Sweetwater Lake area, and includes
Logjam
Creek. The project area has received both timber harvest
and road construction. In many places, timber was harvested
up to the stream bank, affecting riparian areas
along streams. The cumulative impacts
of these past land management activities and the need
for local employment opportunities are significant issues
identified during the EIS process.

Fisheries protection work focused on reviewing project
area streams within and adjacent to proposed harvest units.
In addition, road crossings on fish-bearing streams
were reviewed. Protection measures for fisheries resources
were prescribed,
and problem areas prioritized for restoration and enhancement activities.
|
| Work is focusing on thinning dense riparian
young growth stands to promote larger conifer trees for bank
stability and future large wood; placement of large wood in
streams to create fisheries habitat and stabilizing or "storing"
roads to reduce erosion and sediment entering streams.
