The Cobble Landscape Assessment is an
integrated resource assessment lead by Thorne Bay Fish Staff, which includes
watershed enhancement
and restoration.
The Cobble project area received heavy timber harvest and road construction in past years.
The cumulative impacts of these past land management
activities and the need for local employment opportunities are significant issues identified
during the assessment. Watershed restoration, recreation development, wildlife
habitat enhancement, small timber sales, and
road access management options were evaluated as part of the Landscape Assessment.

Fisheries restoration work will focus on fixing fish passage
problems and managing young growth
riparian areas adjacent to fish streams
to improve bank stability and future input of large wood for
fish habitat. This work also includes stabilizing (or storing)
roads to reduce erosion and sediment entering streams and
placement of large wood in streams for fish habitat and protection
of stream banks.
