Natural Resource Conservation Education
Natural
resource conservation education is core to the Forest Service's
mission of "caring for the land, and serving people." We work to educate and inspire children about the value of America's
incomparable public lands. Conservation education helps land managers
build public awareness and understanding that natural resources
are limited, and that social and ecological concerns are interdependent.
The POW Conservation Education
and Interpretation Guidebook (6 mb PDF) provides the long
term strategy for implementing National Resource Conservation
Education
on Prince of Wales Island.
The focus of conservation education on Prince of Wales Island
is on teaching children about the sustainability of natural and
cultural resources. Our goal is to build an awareness and understanding
of the interrelationships in natural systems and between people
and the land.
The heart of our conservation education program is our on-going
relationship with community schools. Working together we are building
a place-based approach to conservation education that helps local
school children appreciate the unique natural resources that surround
them.
