Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center
Public Programs
Winter Fireside Chats Lecture Series - Fireside Chats started the first year Mendenhall Glacier opened to the public, and they have continued almost every winter since 1963. Programs are now held in the visitor center's auditorium. Join a diverse group of guest speakers every Friday night from January through March for free lectures on natural history topics. Programs start at 6:30 and 8 pm.
Programs for School-aged Children- Educators may arrange special programs with Forest Service guides for students in pre-school through high school. During the winter the visitor center staff needs two weeks of advance notice. Programs include guided hikes or indoor activities. Our more popular topics include senses, glaciology, habitat, salmon, trees, and eco-systems. Additional programs may be available on request. Please contact Karen Maher at (907) 789-6267.
