Juvenile salmon

Alevin appear semi-transparent and have prominent black eyes.Alevin stay in the gravel as they absorb the nutrients in their yolk sacs. Coho and chinook salmon fry resemble minnows.Salmon fry leave the gravel and begin to feed on live prey. Smolt look a little more like salmon, although they are still very small.Smolt begin to lose their "baby" markings and adapt to salt water, where they will spend most of their lives.
