Salmon Viewing

Chum salmon making its way through the shallowsChum and sockeye move into Juneau streams by mid-July, pink salmon start by early August, and coho by mid-September.

Steep Creek Salmon Viewing Platforms

Where: Mendenhall Glacier Vistor Center

What: Several platforms located along stream offering views of sockeye and coho salmon.

Details: Juneau's premier salmon viewing site. Black bears occasionally feed on salmon. Underwater camera in Steep Creek broadcasts live images of underwater world to visitor center and covered viewing area. More on Steep Creek Salmon Cam
