Haida totem pole

 Haida Totem Pole
Carver - James Hart
Eagle Clan

This carved Haida totem pole presents important crest figures. Grizzly Bear is at the bottom, Killer Whale in the middle, and Eagle is the top figure with Salmon in talons. Figures are Land People, Ocean People, and Upper World People. These are highly respected beings of yesteryear and greatly admired and respected today. This totem is dedicated to the old Haida masters who developed the art form and created great works of art to be used and to record history.

The three Alaska Native tribes had a common cultural, economic and environmental background. They were all hunters and gatherers who lived along the river valleys and the coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest, skillfully using the abundant resources of river, sea and forest.
