Description: One room 14' x 20' A-frame cabin with loft. Cabin faces ocean and upper loft wall is clear Plexiglas. 12' x 12' meat shed for hanging moose or storing personal belongings about 100' from cabin.
Location: 30 air miles (50 km) from Yakutat on west bank of Old Italio River.

Access: Wheeled aircraft only. 1600' x 100' Forest Service-maintained airstrip 300 feet (90 m) from cabin.
Terrain: Relatively flat and can be very wet. Hip boots recommended. Predominantly brush with scattered willow/alder thickets and cottonwoods around cabin.

What to bring: Fuel for oil heater (#1 Stove oil), drinking water, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking stove, lantern, pots, pans, plates, utensils, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, fire extinguisher and fire starter. Gallon of fuel lasts 2-10 hours, depending on setting. Five-gallon fuel tank (without fuel) provided at cabin. It's a good idea to bring your own water.
More information: Airstrip is actually tidal flat that may be flooded at extreme high tides or after heavy rains and can have debris or logs on it.
Special features: Gulf of Alaska with many miles of sandy beach 1/2 mile from cabin. Outstanding fishing for rainbow trout, dolly varden, steelhead and salmon (sockeye, pink, king and silver) in Old Italio, New Italio and Akwe River systems. Large moose population; hunting good to excellent. Heavy brown bear populations. Bald eagles, ravens, and seagulls abundant along the river.
